(Dec-03-2010)

Residents of Boy’s Town can now have access to a wealth of information with the aid of a new telecentre/computer lab that was opened recently at Hugh Sherlock Hall on Collie Drive in Kingston.

The telecentre/computer lab provide a means for community members, young people in particular to amend their education, develop skills and take part in interactive communications with Government agencies and other bodies that offer information and services on the internet.

Trevor Spence, Chairman of Project Steering Committee expressed that the facility is being used as a community access point by different ages in the community.

Raquel Lewis, community member said that the computer lab is helping participants to learn using various auto skills software, while researching for other classes.

“We are now able to do our homework and class work as well as play games and chat with friends we have not seen in a long time. We also have email addresses and Facebook accounts," she added.

She also said that the opening of the computer lab has changed the environment significantly because the members of the Boy’s Town Youth Development Programme normally head home.

The opening of the computer lab will help to promote and motivate youth empowerment through education, skills training, computer training, life skills and positive mentoring in Boy’s Town.
